6 Months Postpartum - My 6 Takeaways

I’m officially six months postpartum—what??! While it somehow feels like time has both flown and crawled, I’ve collected a handful of things that have been unexpectedly profound, random, and ridiculously useful along the way. These six takeaways are the ones that stand out most so far—from little hacks that save my sanity to realizations that have shifted how I move through my days. This isn’t a guidebook, just an honest snapshot of where I am right now—and maybe it’ll resonate if you’re in it too.

1. The Mother Tether

In all honesty, the tug-of-war between becoming a mother and being a businesswoman overnight was a challenging reality to work through. What do they say—old habits die hard?? By 44, I was programmed to work and create constantly, and to no surprise, that shifted drastically the day we had our girl! Even though I was ready for Sae, once she arrived it felt like I had to detox from my old life—let it go and reprogram my mind and subconscious tendencies—all while learning how to be a mom. Without sounding insensitive, the overnight reality of being tethered to motherhood’s demands, often out of my control, was a true life shock. There were tears, frustration, and a lot of discovery—but now, at this six-month mark, both Sae and I are thriving. She has brought a deeper purpose to my already full life, and she is by far my greatest accomplishment!

2. Breastfeeding

The one thing that initially rocked my world! Overnight, what was once merely sexual was suddenly leaking and sustaining life?? At six months I’m used to it, but in the beginning it was absolutely mind-blowing. Pro tip: get the silver cups and nipple balm before baby comes—you will need them!

3. Walking

I’ve walked almost every single day since being released from the hospital, and I wholeheartedly believe it has done more for my mental health than I’ll ever fully understand. They say it’s a wonder drug—and I agree. Walking is a non-negotiable for me, right up there with water.

4. Diaper Changing Pad Organizer

Yes, we have a diaper bag with all the things, but the true MVP has been a diaper changing pad organizer (yes, it’s a mouthful!). I honestly thought it was going to be some novelty item we’d never touch, but it’s what we use the most. A must for moms!!

5. Getting “Ready” Is Everything

I got a blowout five days after Sae was born and nearly every week thereafter. I also made it a priority to get at least half-ready nearly every day. Half-ready meaning lightning-fast skincare, simple makeup, brush hair, done. Prioritizing this had a HUGE impact on my confidence and mental health—and I think it’s the first thing women tend to let go. Hand baby off to someone for 10 minutes and do it—it’s a superpower to feel like yourself again!

6. Forget Baby Outfits

All the cute baby clothes we had? Hardly used. What we bought over and over again—and what Matt insisted on—were these specific Target onesies. The fabric and zipper made it ridiculously easy to pop her into them in literal seconds. Honestly, onesies are all you need!

I know there’s so much more I could share, but off the top of my head, these are the key takeaways that stand out the most right now.
