I met Kristin on set ages ago when I used to appear on the E! Network as a Style Expert hosting segments. Kristen has since left the big network and evolved her expertise greatly as she currently holds down the empire as Head of Production for an arguably well-known name, Chrissy Teigen! After reading this interview you will definitely leave with some major insights as to why networking and ignoring that annoying voice inside your head can take you far in life...
LA: What is one interesting thing that people may not know about your career?
K: I worked in sports for the first five years. I started as a producer and editor for a show featuring the Philadelphia Phillies and then moved to Chicago to produce college football and basketball content.
LA: During your professional journey, what is one mistake you made that you learned the most from?
K: The most consistent mistake I have made is falling for my imposter syndrome. When you get in your own way it stifles you creatively and holds you back from advancing your career. Give yourself credit when it is due. No one knows what they're doing!
LA: What is one thing you did that put you on the right path to success in your career?
K: Being curious and asking questions. I've found that people ultimately want to help, especially when they're in a similar industry, but you have to seek it out. Early on I would set up informational interviews where my main goal was to understand the opportunities that were available in my industry, and that ended up being a really great way to create my professional network and get jobs.
LA: What are you most proud of at this moment?
K: My persistence in following my goals instead of listening to other people's opinions. If you know what you want sometimes people will try to deter you based on their own fears and insecurities. I was lucky enough to have a general idea of the direction of my career. I followed my instincts every step of the way. Sometimes a job or decision will feel wrong in the moment, but you'll look back and realize how it got you to where you are. Stick with your gut!
LA: Your go-to beverage after a long week (specifics please!)?
K: Aperol spritz or a mezcal margarita. It depends how hard the week was!
